Problem
Portals answer “what’s for sale.” Buyers are asking “should I live here, and can I afford it?”
My role
Product design end to end, plus the brand identity.
Outcome
Live and serving GTA listings today.

Context

SixRoofs is a real-estate platform for GTA buyers and renters that layers neighbourhood risk, price context and rent-vs-buy math directly onto the listing feed.

The bet: the search itself should carry the judgement calls a good agent would make out loud. I owned the product design end to end — and designed the identity the product is built on.

The problem

Portals answer “what’s for sale.” Buyers are asking “should I live here, and can I afford it?”

TENSION 01
The deciding facts aren’t in the listing

Powerlines, rail corridors, highways, crime rates, a cemetery two streets over. All public, none of it on the card people actually shop from.

TENSION 02
A price with no reference point

$34,200 or $1.2M means nothing on its own. Without the typical price for that block and type, buyers can’t tell a deal from a stretch.

TENSION 03
Rent or buy is answered in a spreadsheet

Maintenance fees, mortgage, taxes — the math that decides the purchase happened in four other tabs, then got re-checked with an agent.

The approach

Three decisions carried the whole product: put the insight next to the listing, write filters the way people speak, and never show a number without its context.

INSIGHTS
Findings ride along with the feed

Smart insights sit beside results with a live count, so users know how much the platform found without leaving the search.

FILTERS
Sentences, not a form

“I want a…”, “For…”, “Just show me the end units.” Sliders paired with typed ranges, and the action always states how many homes match.

PRICE
Every price gets a scale

Cards pair the ask with a typical-price range and a directional delta, turning a number into a judgement.

The product

Two audiences on one system: buyers and renters searching, and agents subscribing to the platform.

SixRoofs desktop landing page
Landing. The roofline frames a single sentence — “I want a home with low maintenance fee” — and the search band sits in full teal directly beneath it, so the first interaction is the product itself, not a pitch.
SixRoofs listing detail with map
Listing detail. A pinned map holds location context while the left column runs the decision sequence: price against the previous ask, the facts strip, then “The truth you should know.”
SixRoofs sign up modal
Sign up. Two fields and a blurred-but-visible feed behind the modal — the value is on screen while the ask is being made.
SixRoofs agent checkout
Agent checkout. A three-step teal progress bar and a sticky summary that keeps the saving, subtotal and total visible through the whole form.
RESPONSIVE
SixRoofs landing page
Landing, mobile. The same sequence stacked into one thumb-scroll.
SixRoofs map discovery
Discover. A deliberately quiet map — clusters, sold state and the selected pin carry the only colour.
SixRoofs listing results
Results. Freshness, price delta and the typical-price scale carried on every card.
SixRoofs filters
Filters. Conversational headings; the action always says how many homes are left.
SixRoofs listing detail, full length
Detail, mobile. The pinned map collapses; the decision sequence stays intact.

Identity

Six roofs, stacked into one mark.

The mark literalises the name: layered rooflines stacked into a single diamond, reading as a house from a distance and as a stack of options up close. Deep teal does the trust work and owns the wordmark; terracotta is reserved for the one thing on screen worth acting on.

Discover, narrow, decide

Search is where a listings app either earns trust or loses it. Each screen here scrolls on its own — the same way it does on a phone.
